Austin Peay Men’s Tennis loses home opener
“Tough one today,” said head coach Ross Brown. “It was nice to play at home. We lost our composure a couple of times so we’ll need to see that improve.” Senior Sean Bailey took that No. 1 singles point, crushing Southern Illinois’ Brandon Florez 6-2, 6-1. Bailey and junior Jasmin Ademovic dispatched Florez and Martijn Admiraal, 8-4, in No. 1 doubles. The Govs took the doubles point after sophomores Dimitar Ristovski and Iago Seffrin knocked off Badr Cherradi and Johnny Rigby, 8-5, in No. 2 doubles. Ristovski and Seffrin were less successful in singles play, with Ristovski falling to Cherradi (6-1, 2-6, 7-6 (1)) in No. 3 singles and Seffrin losing to Rigby (6-3, 6-3) at No. 5. Sophomore Aleksas Tverijonas picked the Govs other singles victory, knocking off Rafael Cuadrillero 6-4, 6-7 (5), 6-4 in No. 4 singles. Ademovic and senior John Storie picked up singles losses. Southern Illinois’ Jorge Cavero knocked off Ademovic (6-4, 4-6, 6-3) at No. 2 singles and Storie was defeated by Admiraal (6-2, 2-6, 11-9). The Govs will compete twice next weekend, traveling to Chattanooga, Friday, before hosting Abilene Christian, Saturday.
