APSU Sports: Austin Peay Women’s Track and Field

Austin Peay State University Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s track and field team makes its second trip this season down I-24 for a meet at Tennessee State.

The TSU Invitational starts 6:00pm, Friday, with the pole vault at the Dunn Center on the third floor before moving to the Gentry Center for the remainder of competition, beginning at 8:00am, Saturday.

Ten schools will compete at this event. In addition to the Lady Govs and host Tennessee State, Belmont, Lipscomb and Alabama A&M will be the Division I representatives.

Earlier this season at TSU, three Lady Govs – seniors Jasmine Foster (shot put), Nichole Bressner (pole vault) and Chantelle Grey (800m run) – won their respective events in dominating fashion. The Lady Govs will unfortunately be without Foster due to injury this weekend.

“With this meet being so close to Clarksville, it’s almost like having a home meet,” said head coach Doug Molnar. “We know the facility and what it’s like. After last week, it will be good to get everyone back into their comfort zones a bit.”

The Lady Govs struggled at times during last week’s Indiana Relays. While Grey placed eighth in the finals of the 800m invitational, she was the only track athlete to make the finals of an event. Foster was sixth in the shot put (13.36m) and eighth in the weight throw (15.34m), and senior Cenitra Hudson was also eighth in the long jump (5.27m).

“With only a couple of meets left before the conference indoor championships, it’s important to be at our best,” Molnar said. “We’ve got some great athletes that can contend at conference, but we’ve got to get them competing at that level.”
