      Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University concludes its seven-game home stand when it hosts Michigan State in a three-game weekend series, Friday-Saturday, at Raymond C. Hand Park . The Govs are off to their best start since 1958 and bring a six-game win streak into the weekend set.  Meanwhile, the Spartans will begin a eight-game roadtrip through the Mid-South after opening their season in South Carolina.

      Clarksville Parks and Recreation offering Lifeguard Certification

      Clarksville Parks and Recreation LogoClarksville, TN – The Clarksville Parks & Recreation Department will offer its first Lifeguard Certification Course for non-staff participants seeking the American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification.  This course will take place at the Indoor Aquatic Center, located at 166 Cunningham Lane, March 25-29 from 2 until 8 p.m.

      The American Red Cross Lifeguarding Course provides entry-level lifeguard participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until emergency medical service personnel can take over. «Read the rest of this article»

      University of Tennessee to retire Dale Ellis’ Jersey in ceremony next year

      Knoxville, TN – The University of Tennessee plans to honor legendary men’s basketball player Dale Ellis by retiring his No. 14 jersey during a home game next season, the Tennessee athletics department announced Thursday.

      Ellis – a two-time first-team All-American – will become the fourth player to be permanently honored in the Thompson-Boling Arena rafters. He joins Bernard King (No. 53), Ernie Grunfeld (No. 22) and Allan Houston (No. 20).

      Austin Peay State University Golf Team to host Dayton

      Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – With low 40 degree temperatures expected to greet it, Austin Peay State University men’s golf team will open the 2013 “Spring” schedule when it plays host to Dayton, 9:00am, Friday, in a dual scrimmage at the Links at Novadell.

      Both teams will play each individual-APSU will have all 10 players competing while Dayton will play 12. Team scores nor the individual results will affect rankings.

      Predators send forward Brian McGrattan to the Flames

      Former Tennessee Lady Vol Tamika Catchings to speak at FCA banquet

      Chattanooga, TN – Former Lady Vol and three-time Olympic gold medalist Tamika Catchings will speak to the FCA’s Road to Victory banquet on March 5 in Chattanooga, Tenn.

      Catchings will conduct a basketball clinic earlier that day at the Chattanooga Convention Center. The clinic is open to girls from any area middle school, high school, recreational league, Upward or AAU team. The first 300 registering receive FCA bags.       Nashville, TN – Kevin Bright nailed a pull-up jumper with 0.8 seconds on the clock that rattled around the rim and backboard before falling through to complete a Commodore rally and beat Georgia 63-62 at Memorial Gym in Nashville.   Having seen so many games get away from them their SEC schedule, it was time for a lucky bounce.

      Vanderbilt Women host Auburn Thursday Night at Memorial Gym

      Nashville, TN – The Vanderbilt women’s basketball team (18-9, 8-6 SEC) looks to cap its home schedule with a win over Auburn and go 12-2 at home on the year. The Commodores are led into the game by reigning ESPNW National Player of the Week, Tiffany Clarke.

      Clarke is averaging 16.4 points per game and coming off a 30-point performance in Vanderbilt’s 61-51 upset of No. 10/13 Texas A&M on Sunday. The senior forward also earned SEC Player of the Week honors last week, adding a 26-point performance in a win at Florida last Thursday. Likely joining Clarke in the starting lineup will be the team’s other two seniors, Elan Brown and Gabby Smith. Brown is averaging 6.5 points and 5.8 rebounds per game, while Smith is posting 1.8 points and 1.2 rebounds per outing. Junior Jasmine Lister will run the point.

      An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.  To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence – community, classroom, character and competition.
