        Lady Vols host top-ranked Stanford

        Tennessee (7-2) and Stanford (10-0) will meet for the 30th time in the series on Saturday at 4 p.m. Eastern time.

        SportSouth will televise the contest live from Thompson-Boling Arena, with MyVLT providing a simulcast.

        UT enters the contest ranked No. 10 in the AP Poll and No. 11 in the USA Today Coaches Poll, while Stanford enters ranked No. 1 in both polls.

        The Lady Vols, who had previously won seven straight, are coming off a 76-53 defeat at the hands of No. 3/3 Baylor in Waco, Texas, on Tuesday night.

        The Cardinal squad, meanwhile, arrives in Knoxville after holding off #21/17 South Carolina in Columbia on Thursday night, 53-49.

        Facing off vs. Number one

        ¢ This will mark the 46th time Tennessee has played a No. 1 ranked team, holding a 14-31 record in those meetings.

        ¢ UT is 2-10 at home, 6-6 on the road and 6-15 at neutral sites vs. No. 1 ranked teams.

        ¢ The Lady Vols have played Stanford twice when the Cardinal was ranked No. 1 and sport a 1-1 record.

        ¢ #5/1 UT fell to #1/5 Stanford in Knoxville on Dec. 15, 1996, 82-65.

        ¢ The #2/2 Lady Vols defeated #1/1 Stanford in the Rainbow Wahine Classic in Hawaii on Dec. 6, 1992, 74-73 (OT).

        ¢ Nine times in the series one of the teams has been ranked No. 1 in the nation (UT in 1988-89, 1991-92, 1992-93, 1993-94, 1994-95, 1997-98, 2007-08;  SU in 1992-93, 1996-97).

        ¢ Tennessee’s last win vs. a No. 1 team came on March 26, 2005, when #5/4 UT beat #1/1 LSU, 67-65, in Greenville, S.C., in the SEC Tournament Championship game.

        ¢ The last home win vs. a No. 1 team was Jan. 22, 1996, when #4/5 UT defeated #1/1 Louisiana Tech,

        ¢ The only other home win for UT over a No. 1 squad was on Feb. 6, 1978, when the Lady Vols beat No. 1 LSU, 86-68.

        SERIES HISTORY

        ¢ The Lady Vols own a 22-7 all-time record vs. the Cardinal in a series that dates back to Dec. 18, 1988.

        ¢ Tennessee owns an 11-1 record vs. Stanford in the friendly confines of Thompson-Boling Arena.

        ¢ Stanford has won two of the last three in the series, but Tennessee has taken three of the last five and 14 of the past 17 contests between the two schools.

        ¢ UT and SU have needed overtime to settle scores in six contests, with the club from Rocky Top holding a 4-2 record.

        ¢ Three of the last six games have needed an extra frame to decide the outcome, with Tennessee winning two of three extra-frame contests.
