Northeast is on the verge of accomplishing a feat only two other Montgomery County high school football teams have been able to do and by winning at undefeated Beech tonight at 7 p.m.  the Eagles would vault into next week’s Class 5A semifinals.

With a quarterfinal triumph tonight, Northeast (9-3) would match the trips made by Clarksville Academy in 1997 and Kenwood in 1999. That would set up a semifinal showdown with the winner of Jackson Northside/Ridgeway next Friday night.

No Montgomery County high school football team has ever won a TSSAA  football championship.

Beech (12-0) won the 2009 Class 5A championship.

“I’m very proud of what these seniors have accomplished,” Northeast coach Issac Shelby said. “We look forward to the opportunity to play one of the truly great football programs in our state.”

Northeast will be led by the attack of quarterback and Tennessee signee Jalen Reeves-Maybin, who rushed for four touchdowns and passing for another one and ran for 327 yards on 15 attempts, in a  49-34 victory Centennial last week.

Beech will also have to watch fullback Jerome Jones, who added 198 rushing yards on 21 carries and scored twice last week.

        Northeast (9-3) at Beech (12-0)

        Northeast (9-3)
