        Lady Govs lose in 1st round of OVC Volleyball Tournament

        MOREHEAD, Ky. – Fifth-seeded Tennessee State defeated No. 4 Austin Peay (25-15, 18-25, 27-25, 25-17) to advance to the semifinals of the OVC Championship. The Tigers will play the winner of the Morehead State/UT Martin match.

        Tennessee State was led by Naomi Wells who recorded a match-high 16 kills to go with 13 digs. Rachel Ambroch added 13 kills. Britani Hathorn paced the defense with 15 digs. Erika Moss dished out 41 assists in the win.

        Lauren Henderson led the Lady Govs with 14 kills while Jada Stotts recorded 12 kills and 13digs. Liz Landon registered a team-high 14 digs and Nikki Doyle added 10.

        Austin Peay finished the season with 17-16 overall mark.

        BELMONT 3, EASTERN ILLINOIS 1

        MOREHEAD, Ky. – Third-seeded Belmont defeated No. 6 Eastern Illinois in four sets (24-26, 25-18, 25-19, 25-23) to advance to the semifinals of the OVC Championship. The Bruins will face the winner of the Southeast Missouri/Jacksonville State match.

        The Bruins had three players recorded double-doubles in the win. Jen Myer posted a team-high 14 kills to go with 11 digs while Joycelyn Youngdahl had 10 kills and 11 digs. Scarlet Gable added 10 kills and 10 digs in the match. Jamie Lundstrom led all players with 20 digs as Hannah Miranda dished out a match-high 48 assists.

        Reynae Hutchinson led the Panthers with 15 kills while Alison Berens added 12. Stephanie Wallace and Kelsey Brooked paced the defense with 15 digs each. Dakota Springer and Marah Bradbury each had 13 digs in the match. Bradbury also recorded 43 assists.

        Eastern Illinois finished the season with a 11-21 overall mark.

         

        SOUTHEAST MISSOURI, 3, JACKSONVILLE STATE 1

        MOREHEAD, Ky. – Second-seeded Southeast Missouri defeated Jacksonville State (25-22, 25-20, 19-25, 25-21) to advance to the semifinals of the 2012 OVC Championship. The Redhawks will face No. 3 Belmont in the semifinals on Friday. The Bruins defeated Eastern Illinois earlier in the day.

        The Redhawk offense was paced by Brittany Kalinoski and Samantha Lowman with 13 kills each. Colleen Yarber added 11 kills. Kalinoski and Yarber each recoded double-doubles as they added 15 and 16 digs, respectively. Julie Shives dished out 30 assists to go with a match-high 33 digs in the win.

        Emily Rutherford recorded 18 kills to lead the Gamecocks while also registering 17 digs. Taylor long also had a double-double with 11 kills and 12 digs. Kelsey Anderson paced the defense with a match-best 33 digs. Alina Agamy also registered a double-double, leading all players with 40 assists to go with 23 digs.

        The two teams combined for 245 digs.

        Jacksonville State finished the season with a 14-17 overall mark.

         

        MOREHEAD STATE 3, UT MARTIN 0

        MOREHEAD, Ky. – Top-seeded Morehead State defeated No. 8 UT Martin (25-12, 25-20, 25-8) to advance to the semifinals of the OVC Volleyball Championship. The Eagles will play No. 5 Tenenssee State which defeated Austin Peay earlier in the day.

        Ellie Roberson and Annie Gruenschlaeger led the Eagles with 10 kills each. Leslie Schellhaas paced the defense with 20 digs while Aryn Bohannon added 16. Cailtin Clark dished out a match-high 25 assists.

        The Skyhawks were led by Jackie Harter with four kills while Kasey Elswick recorded a team-high 11 digs.

        UT Martin finished the season with a 10-21 mark.
