The two-time Class AAA defending champion Ravenwood Lady Raptors (40-9, 8-2 11-AAA) volleyball team had an outstanding performance and swept past the Rossview Lady Hawks 3-0 (25-11, 25-9, 25-18) in the Region 5-AAA Championship game at Rossview High School Thursday.

Ravenwood moves onto the Class AAA State Tournamentwhere it will play Bearden.

In first set, Rossview (31-5, 16-0 10-AAA) opened with service and a double block by Regan Comperry and Janie White.  The intensity thickened as Rossview’s White dug deep to the floor and miraculously got the ball over the net for an amazing point.  However, Ravenwood responded with 5 straight kills and 3 of them from Lady Raptor Payton Logan.  Rossview’s Comperry and White teamed up again for a double block to slow the Raptors’ momentum.  Unfortunately, it was not enough as Ravenwood’s Kathryn Hutch killed 6 times to close out the set.

In the second set, Ravenwood’s Hutch started with 2 kills to warm up.  As Rossview’s White answered with 2 kills of her own.  These two ladies faced off in front of the net with a kill from Hutch as White blocked her for a huge point change.  Rossview’s Comperry set up White for 3 more kills.  The Raptors replied with kills from Santanna Patterson, Logan, and Sophia Cerino.  From this point, Ravenwood extended their lead and closed the set with 2 more kills by Hutch.

In the last set, Ravenwood opened with 3 kills (Hutch 2, Cerino 1) and an ace (Taylor Briggs).  Rossview’s Mica Koontz responded with a kill. But Ravenwood’s Patterson answered back and pounded the middle with 2 kills.  The battle for points went back and forth between both teams.  Rossview’s Comperry aced 2 serves and White added 2 tips.  As the momentum shifted to Ravenwood, Hutch and Patterson killed it in the middle and sideline.  To close the game, Ravenwood’s Briggs and Emily Svennevik helped with a kill and an ace.
