Brian Balthrop defended his title in the Mann Smith & Cummings Tournament of Champions this weekend at Swan Lake Golf Course. A steady round of 73 on Sunday was all he needed to hold of Greg Guinn for the title. Conditions were excellent for the elite golf event, featuring the top performing golfers of the year in Clarksville. The tournament concludes the amateur golf season by having local golfers qualify on a point system by participating in the major golf tournaments during the summer. If a golfer wins an event, they are automatically qualified to play in the tournament. Other golfers qualify on points based on how they perform in each event.
Balthrop, a former Clarksville High School and Austin Peay golfer, is only the third golfer to defend his Tournament of Champions title. Balthrop shot a combined 143 two day total. Guinn shot 146.
The Senior Tournament of Champions is this weekend at Swan Lake, featuring the same format, but for golfers who are fifty years of age or older.
